ODELL FAMILY OF BALLINGARRY, CO LIMERICK CONNECTIONS WITH THE FITZMAURICE FAMILY

Major John Odell of Ballingarry, b 1620, son of William Odell and Jane Mervyn, the daughter of Sir Edward Mervyn and the grandson of Alice Spring.  He was a JP in 1665 and High Sheriff of County Limerick from 1678 to 1679.  MP for Askeaton in 1692. He married Elizabeth Cane in 1681 and had issue two sons and three daughters
(a) John Odell, eldest son who married Constance Fitzmaurice.  Had issue John who married Anne Fitzmaurice, daughter of Captain James Fitzmaurice.
(b) William Odell, second son who married Anne Hunt of Glangould, Co Tipperary and left issue four sons and two daughters, John Edward, William and George, Elizabeth and Anne.  The eldest son John married Frances Massey of Macroom, cork and had issue
(c) Judith Odell, the eldest daughter, married Captain Charles Conyers of Castle Town and had issue one son Odell Conyers (who married Jane Langford of tullagh, Limerick and had issue two daughters (Catherine Conyers and Judith) and three daughters, Catherine, Margaret and Mary Conyers.
(d) Mary Odell, the second daughter married Captain Thomas Brown and had issue one son Thomas, a lieutenant.  She married secondly John Langton of Killbeg, Limerick and had issue
(e) Grissell Odell, third daughter, married Henry Graydon of Elverstone, Blessington. and had two sons and four daughters.

The other offspring of William Odell and Jane Mervyn and siblings of Major John were as follows:-
a)  Captain Charles Odell who had issue:  Charles, Jane and Edward.
b)  Edmund
c)  Grisell
d)  Catherine
One of the two sisters above married firstly Captain Oxford of Newcastle, Limerick and had issue one child Mary who married Richard Stephens Esq of Newcastle who had issue six daughters.
